LinkedIn Tips - LinkedIn Profile and Google

When you create your LinkedIn Profile it will be indexed by Google.  You have control over what appears in your "Public Profile."  LinkedIn sets the defaults favorably limiting the content that is shared.  You agreed to the terms in the User & Provacy Agreements when you joined.

The Public Profile can be viewed by anyone accessing the web.  This is a social networking site.  If you are not comfortable sharing your skills and work history and achievements, then you should not be a member and should close your account.

Your control permits you to optionally include/exclude the following portions of your profile:

  • Basics - name, industry. location and number of connections and recommendations.
  • picture
  • headline
  • summary
  • specialties
  • postions - current and/or past with or without details
  • education - with or without details
  • websites or URL's
  • interests
  • groups
  • honors and awards
